Additional Info

A little note on memorizing math facts:

Rote memorization of math facts can be overwhelming, tedious, and, honestly, pretty boring.  Providing colorful and enticing visuals makes math facts instruction more engaging and enjoyable (for everyone involved!).  When students are having fun and really engaging with the content they are more likely to attend to the lesson, retain the information being presented and practiced, and to be more successful in achieving their learning goals.

You can use the printables in this making 10 set in a variety of ways in your math lessons. This is not an exhaustive list, but here are a few ways to use them:

  • The black and white coloring page can be used as an introductory activity to give students examples and get them excited about adding up to 10 and making the rainbow!
  • After providing instruction for students about adding to 10:
    • You can refer students to the color posters on your classroom walls or bulletin boards or in your homeschool room.  Or you can give students the letter size color poster for them to keep in their binders or notebooks for personal reference when working on math practice.
    • They may need reminders to reference the visuals when doing their math practice.
  • Use the fill in the blank activity pages to help students practice their addition facts or as an assessment to see what they know.
